Offering a new era in orthopaedic surgery

The Orthopaedic Institute brings together over 30 orthopaedic surgeons, a dedicated nursing team, education and research.

No-Gap Joint Replacement Program

Macquarie University Hospital has partnered with HCF and Medibank to ensure that eligible patients have no out-of-pocket expenses for hip and knee replacement surgery.

What that means for youA nurse talking to a patient in a bed

Participating doctors have agreed to charge fees within the limits set by your insurer – meaning you will have no additional costs for your:

  • procedure
  • hospital stay and any related in-hospital services
  • post-surgery rehabilitation at home.

This allows you to focus on your recovery without worrying about unexpected medical bills.

Hip and knee surgery

Many of our orthopaedic surgeons specialise in hip and knee joint replacement. To support patients in returning to normal life as soon as possible, we focus on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) model. This model prioritises:

  • patient care before surgery
  • rapid mobilisation after surgery
  • early discharge when suitable – allowing patients to continue their rehabilitation comfortably at home.

The Orthopaedic Institute

The Orthopaedic Institute was created to provide a comprehensive orthopaedic care experience. As well as the full range of well-established and routine orthopaedic procedures, we can treat complex conditions untreatable elsewhere.

Minimally invasive surgery is also common in many procedures and we continue to invest in robotic technology, such as the ROSA Knee System, to enhance joint replacement outcomes.

Our unit provides:

  • four state-of-the-art operating theatres
  • two specialised recovery units
  • 29 comfortable in-patient beds
  • six same-day beds
  • hotel-style patient rooms fitted with cutting-edge entertainment cockpits
  • access to onsite resources, including ICU, imaging, pathology, pharmacy and physiotherapy.

Patient-centred care

Patients will always be at the centre of everything we do. Our team provides personalised care, considering each patient's unique circumstances to create the best care plan for optimal outcomes.A nurse escorting a patient outside the Orthopaedic Institute building
