Rapid access and early detection

In July 2025, the federal government is introducing a national lung cancer screening program targeting the population most at risk, aiming for early detection where possible for lung cancer to be curable.

MQ Health has positioned itself at the forefront of the clinical response to this program with the implementation of a comprehensive lung cancer screening service incorporating its existing services together with an expanding array of:

  • clinics
  • diagnostic procedures
  • GP support services
  • multidisciplinary team discussions
  • treatment options.

Lung nodule rapid access service

Our service is designed to provide streamlined care for patients with lung nodules, ensuring rapid access at every step, from referral through to diagnosis and management. We offer:

We offer a dedicated line for GPs to discuss cases prior to referral. This ensures efficient guidance and support, improving outcomes from the very beginning.

Each patient referred to the clinic will have a comprehensive assessment of their imaging and medical history to make a determination of most the appropriate management. Patients will be seen in the dedicated incidental Pulmonary Nodule Clinic.

This approach combines recognised clinical guidelines with personalised factors to tailor the approach to each individual.

Patients referred to our service benefit from an all-inclusive, comprehensive diagnostic process with the latest technology. This includes:

  • imaging and pathology
  • interventional radiology
  • interventional pulmonology
  • access to respiratory physicians and pulmonology specialists.

We provide seamless access to support services for our patients within a multidisciplinary team approach including:

  • smoking cessation
  • respiratory function testing
  • specialised nursing
  • allied health including pulmonary rehabilitation, dietetics, social work, clinical psychology and exercise physiology.

Should treatment be required, it is delivered on site under the care of the following expert teams:

  • cardiothoracic surgeons
  • medical oncology
  • radiation oncology.
